Bobby Mardis has met with over 200 name producers, directors, actors and entertainers in a quest to understand the inner circle. He uses these meetings, meet ups and working relationship to fill his cup of wisdom to create and pass on to the newer generation of filmmakers.
The years of hanging with the masters of the art like Robert Townsend, Keenen, Rusty Cundieff, the masters at DGA who I sat with on the DGA AA steering committee with and helped mold my mind. These influencers have infused me with the idea of what is possible and what can be realized with hard work, tenacity and keeping focused on the mission. Bobby takes advantage of every encounter and even if it is a five-minute chat that he skillfully soaks up knowledge for his mental database. The key to his success is to never stop seeking new technology, knowledge and creative innovation that can stretch the imagination of status quo.
Meeting and working with some of the older experience Hollywood moguls like Sidney Poitier gave me the opportunity to have one on one time to shoot ideas back and forth. Each second of conversation gave me light-years worth of insight, strategy and methodologies that gave them the star-power and magic used to put them in the iconic map.
The idea is to gain knowledge that you cannot acquire from books, but only using the Griot mentality of relaying stories and helpful tips to created my own magic. My purpose and move from Los Angeles to Atlanta is motivated by the need to create new ground and open new doors of cinematic story telling innovation. Mixing new ideas with older established methodologies that gave the icons their status helps me to stretch in unimaginable ways. some people believe that if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it, which might be true. However, using “what works” and mixing it with the newer and fresher ideas of today, makes for special projects that bring audiences something to look forward to viewing.
I believe that we must stay connected to the old Hollywood to build the new Hollywood which could even be located in the bustling ATLANTA creative community.
